Lifelike Bronze Sculptures Capture Expressive Faces and Playful Energy of Children

Angela Mia De la Vega breathes a realistic beauty into each of her lifelike bronze sculptures. For De la Vega, sculpting is an opportunity to capture what is happening around her, a way to share her vision with the world before it fades away. Her body of work is particularly saturated with youthful figures engaged in energetic and playful activities. Within her forms, she expertly employs light and shadow in order to inspire an emotional connection between her work and her audience, so that one may see a reflection of life within each sculpted face.

Whenever possible, De la Vega works with a life model to accurately capture the micro details that make her final products so incredibly natural. For this reason, she chooses her models carefully, seeking faces which are able to encompass the ambiguity and multiplicity of humanity. Working fervently, De la Vega traces the entire process to completion–from initial skeletal framework to final bronzed composition. However, as each sculpture develops, she begins to slow down and focus on perfecting the intricacies that allow her final animated pieces to encompass a spirit and natural sense of movement.
