Breathtaking Chinese Cinematographic Stills

Photography has the magical ability to create a film-like atmosphere without force-feeding the storyline to the viewer. One can imagine a self-created narrative when taking in Shanghai-based photographer ?? 00’s enchanting visuals. There is a charm about her work that conjures up a yearning for more.

Each frame raises questions that inspire one to creatively brainstorm their own plot and backstory. It’s an unconscious reaction to the artist’s photographic world. In this particular set, there appears to be a universal sense of loneliness in each of the women’s faces, which immediately draws a connection to the dramatic Chinese films of Wong Kar Wai. I’m still undecided as to whether the images depict a drama, horror, or coming-of-age story. Perhaps it is all of the above. Either way, I want to see more.
