Watercolor Paintings of Waves and Whales Mimic the Calming Undulation of Blue Oceans

Portland, Oregon-based artist Evelyn Kritler communicates the tranquillity of the depths of the ocean through her simple, elegant watercolor paintings. In each of her ongoing series, respectively titled Waves and Whales, the artist expands upon her enchantment with the sea and the gentle giants that reside deep within the ebbing and flowing waves. The pieces were born out of her awe for the “ever-changing nature of the water” and maintain a grace through their simple, minimalist presentation and calming indigo tones.

An artist and graphic designer, Kritler seeks to explore the visual realm by combining her gifts whenever possible. Inspired by the hypnotic and peaceful rippling waves, her painted portraits tap into these sensations, emitting a similar sense of calm through their blue hues and shaded tones as well as the rhythmic textures of their color gradients. Her serene prints offer a viable connection to the waves, even if one can’t physically travel to meet the ocean.

Prints of the placid portraits are available through her Etsy shop, which she continues to update as she releases new works.
