Ballpoint Pen Portraits of Dreamy Actors

Ryan Gosling

Creative use of the ballpoint pen as a medium has taken many directions in the art world. For example, Samuel Silva uses a variety of colors and drawing techniques to create his hyperrealistic illustrations while artists Sergei & Vyacheslav Savelyev have a more abstract approach to developing their Scribble Portraits.

Spain-based artist Laura Modamio is in that talented pool of artists who don’t need any fancy tools to create their art. Using a simple blue or black ballpoint pen, Modamio draws dreamy men like Ryan Gosling and Ian Somerhalder. She actually has quite the collection of Somerhalder portraits and she says, “I think that drawing him has become some kind of vice to me. He shows a wide variety of interesting and unique features that makes him really easy to draw.” Modamio uses a crosshatching style to develop the very expressive details of her subjects’ features. She has an insane eye for shading and, with just these simple, everyday writing devices, Modamio wows us with her impressive skills.
