Doting Dad Illustrates the Sweet and Silly Things His Young Daughter Says

Spaghetti Toes by Martin Bruckner

Just 3 years ago, graphic designer and father Martin Bruckner was inspired to begin Spaghetti Toes, a silly series that presents the cute and quirky things said by his then-2-year-old daughter, Harper Grace. Since then, Bruckner has dedicated much of his time to illustrating the imaginative phrases and made-up expressions curiously coined by little Harper.

Featuring cute, cartoon-y characters and a vivid color palette, Spaghetti Toes playfully captures Harper's charming outlook on life. The series is composed of individual illustrations captioned with the “absurd, hilarious, adorable and ridiculous things” Bruckner and his artist wife, Michelle, overhear their daughter say on a daily basis. Ranging from the inadvertently existential (“Is that a mirror or a way out of here?”) to downright adorable (“Cuddling makes me hungry”), the endearing quotations are sure to put a smile on your face.

Much like each drawings itself, the series' title is rooted in a hilarious conversation between the Bruckner family. One night, as they were eating dinner, Harper inexplicably expressed a desire to put pasta between her toes. As her mother explained why this wasn't such a good idea, Bruckner was inspired to document their dialogue—and Spaghetti Toes was born!

Following the series' online success, Bruckner has turned the collection of illustrations into a fun and fanciful book, I Love You With All My Butt, which is now available on Amazon.
