A Poetic Fashion Story in Chengdu

Chengdu Summer Breeze is Shanghai-based photographer Mattieu Belin’s profoundly evocative editorial shoot for LIFE Magazine. The photo series is “a poetic fashion story in Chengdu, China” that invites the viewer to interpret the mysterious plot. The protagonist and sole model, Liao, is seen wearing elegant and free-flowing clothes provided by Dongliang Shanghai that easily catches the summer breeze in Chengdu. Like the dog days of summer, there is a easy, laid-back feeling mixed with intrigue and adventure.

Belin’s series has a cinematic quality to it that breathes a sense of sophistication and style in a world filled with mystique, like a good thriller with a calm soundtrack that sneaks up on you. The photographer says of his work “Working with images echoes my desire to understand the world around me and its people. Each element is essential in the process of capturing photos as an art form, playing with the interdependence of light, time and contemplation. Exploring consciousness through the eye of possibility, I am unendingly fascinated by the mysteries of form and the surprising secrets they can unveil.”
