Relaxing Outdoor Seating Combines a Hammock with a Rocking Chair

Rocking chairs and hammocks are uniquely comfortable on their own, but students Harshita Murudkar, Shivaji Gulati, and Mehak Philip wanted to see what it would be like if you put these two concepts together. For an India-based MIT Institute of Design course challenge, the three students spent two weeks building a hammock-rocking chair hybrid. They first built the metal frame, painted it, and spent time researching different weaving techniques. In the end, they combined three different styles (basic, trilobite, and twilled) to produce the piece's seat.

Though it only took them two weeks to create their furniture design, it seems as though they have a marketable product. Already, we can picture the hammock rocking chair in gardens across the globe.
