The Dramatic Black Calendar (12 photos)


Slightly surreal and even a little spooky, this calendar is for those that feel like a cloud is always hovering over their heads. It should come as no surprise that photographer Tejal Patni was inspired by Tim Burton’s dramatic films. Called Splash, the fashion calendar has the color “black” as its theme. “I approached all seasons as if I was writing a script for 12 different feature films,” Patni says. “Therefore , (I) wrote 12 scenes.”

He continues, “In my photography, I try and combine my influences of my favourite feature films and work of great directors, I feel it’s always present in my fashion work.”

Liberating Portraits of Ballerinas Elegantly Dancing in the Streets of Cairo

Like many dance photographers, Mohamed Taher has a knack for beautifully capturing the body in motion. His interest in movement is evident in his Ballerinas of Cairo series, and the captivating collection of photos also serves a more poignant purpose: it helps women fight sexual harassment and reclaim the city’s streets. After learning about the Ballerina Project, an ongoing series that documents dancers in urban settings across the globe, Taher was inspired to carry out a similar undertaking in the Egyptian capital.
