Neon Love Messages Animate in Times Square

In the heart of Times Square, synchronized on over 15 digital billboards, is a dazzling display of love. For the month of February, contemporary artist Tracey Emin will be showcasing her neon love notes as part of the public program Midnight Moment. Six handwritten love messages are animated in Emin's exhibition titled “I Promise to Love You” which can be viewed every night this month from 11:57 PM to midnight. This is Emin's first public project in the United States.

As it states on Times Square's website, “In this unique moving image, the glowing words–made of neon lights–slowly spell themselves out, as if being written by a ghost or an invisible presence. The gentle electric pulsing of the lettering gradually builds into a powerful potent red, leaving the viewer in no doubt about the power of love. Times Square, famous for its neon lighting displays, is the perfect venue for the premiere for Emin's animation.”

s[edition], a contemporary art shop, is the curatorial partner for this month's project, providing six of Emin's works. They've encouraging the public to snap photos of themselves in Times Square, in front of Tracey Emin's art, and then tweet or Instagram the photo with #MidnightMoment. If you then follow @seditionart, you'll receive a digital limited edition of one of Emin's works and your photo will be posted in their gallery. The top five will go to their Facebook page for a final round of voting. The photo with the most “Likes” will win the entire Tracey Emin I Promise To Love You collection as well as signed copies of her books, My Life in a Column and Strangeland.
