Thomas Hawk, the photographer who's goal in life is to publish a million photos, can now add 1,415 more to the list. Hawk attended the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival this year, a popular event held in Indio, California that brings out the biggest names in music. The event is known for its diverse musical acts – singers, bands and DJs who perform everything from rock and indie to electronic music – as well as for its spectacular art installations and sculptures.
This year, a few notable art pieces included a massive snail sculpture, hand painted by German artist duo Herakut, that actually moved through the crowd, as well as a long balloon chain that used the sky as its canvas. Made up of hundreds of balloons along a very long line, they magically lit up at night to resemble sparkling stars in the sky.
With so much eye-candy, Hawk shot over 15,000 frames, processed 1,145 of them and uploaded 500. (The other 900 or so will be published randomly.) Out of those, we've selected our favorites or the ones that show the incredible energy and awesome art at Coachella.
“I had such a great time shooting this event,” Hawk says. “I'm hyper focused on shooting America and Coachella is an example of a prime American music festival. I'd never been before and really enjoyed my first time.”
