Affordable Art Fair NYC Makes It Easy to Enjoy and Collect Art from Around the World

Affordable Art Fair New York Spring 2019

This post is sponsored by the Affordable Art Fair NYC. Our partners are handpicked by My Modern Met’s team because they represent the best in art and culture.

Art lovers get ready, the Affordable Art Fair NYC Spring Edition is about to hit Manhattan. Since 1999, the Affordable Art Fair has been helping break down barriers in the art market and make contemporary art more accessible to everyone. By letting people browse for work by both established and emerging artists in a relaxed, friendly environment, the Affordable Art Fair makes purchasing art a positive experience from start to finish.

Whether you're an established collector or a first-time buyer, you'll want to stop by the Affordable Art Fair when it's in New York from March 28 to March 31 at the Metropolitan Pavilion. With artwork ranging in price from $100 to $10,000, there's truly something for everyone. “Filled with 1000s of hand-picked original paintings, stunning sculptures, editioned prints and more, there is something to suit every taste and budget.” There are a number of inspiring pieces, including works under $2,000. There's also an Under $500 Wall. This selection of handpicked art is one of the most accessible ways to get into art collecting.

Buying art can be an intimidating experience, but the Affordable Art Fair does its best to make it a breeze and ensure that you're set up to buy something that matches your style—and fits your financial limits. Each gallery has an expert that can help you navigate the buying process and there are even tours you can join to learn more about the artwork before settling in on something. If you want a more personal experience, you can book a private shopping session. With work from over 400 artists at 69 international galleries, there is plenty to choose from.

But the Affordable Art Fair NYC is about more than just buying art. Special events to look out for include the Young Talent Exhibition, which fosters emerging artists and curators. “Affordable Art Fair NYC is a fun and creative day out with family and friends. Taking place twice a year in March and September, visitors will enjoy the friendly and relaxed atmosphere filled with hands-on-workshops, kids activities, and personal shopping experiences.”

During the Affordable Art Fair NYC Spring Edition, New York-based artist Mónica Hernández will showcase her thought-provoking oil-on-canvas works featuring the female figure and the power of the female gaze. On the final day of the fair, Hernández will participate in an intimate conversation with Drew Beattie, Director of the Kossak Painting Program and Distinguished Lecturer at Hunter College. From 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm they'll dive into a wide range of topics covering her work and how social and political meanings mix with visual making.

This is just one of several events that also place a focus on learning. A new series of Lunch Time Talks are meant to spark engaging conversation about art, design, and architecture. Geared toward creatives, the conversations are organized by online inclusive arts magazine Crea in conjunction with BAD (Black Artists + Design Guild) and will explore mission-driven topics, as well as constructive, hands-on advice over the course of 45 minutes. Interested in joining the conversation? Pick up special tickets that include a complimentary boxed lunch.

If discussing the impact that social issues have on creative industries sparks your interest, you may also want to pencil in a stop on March 30 at noon, when Brendan Burns (CEO of See.Me) and Alex Nero (Creative Director of See.Me) join a panel with Jia Jia (Chief Curator of Standard Arts), Vanessa Seis (Fair Director of Affordable Art Fair NYC), and Anita Durst (Founder and Artistic Director of Chashama) for an engaging talk on the topic.

The Affordable Art Fair NYC Spring Edition is also making it easier than ever to expose the whole family to art. New this spring are Stroller Hours, which will give parents dedicated time to expose their kids to contemporary art and enjoy the fair as a family. On the Saturday and Sunday of the fair, doors will open early (from 10 am to 11 am) for families to enjoy the art without the crowds.

So whether you walk away with a print, limited edition, original artwork, or simply soak in the atmosphere, the Affordable Art Fair NYC Spring Edition is a must visit event for any art lover in the New York area. Advanced Ticket Pricing ends on March 21, so register today before they sell out.
