Interactive Light-Inspired Installation Shimmers with Every Step and Touch

Interacting with Hitomi Sato‘s Sense of Field installation is a multi-sensory experience. The piece comprises a narrow path between two opposite walls, from which protrude thousands of pieces of transparent, reflective film that surround visitors in touchable shimmers. The material twinkles in different colors from different angles, gently undulating like blades of glimmering grass in tune with each step down the inner walkway. The artist draws her inspiration from the capricious intrigue of natural light.

Ethereal Wood Engravings Evoke a Peaceful Balance Between Man and Nature

Artist Suzuki Yasuo etches fine lines and careful crosshatching into circular cuts of wood to create his intricate and ethereal engravings. His pieces feature natural creatures like owls and butterflies surrounded by organic plant forms, from seaweed to mushrooms. Other works portray profiles of women’s faces, their hair interwoven with insect wings or flowers, and their eyes often gently shut as if drifting into their very own dreamland.

Tiny Technicolor Flowers Blossom from Creative Paper Shavings

Japanese designer Haruka Misawa has reimagined the everyday process of pencil sharpening to create a delicate series of paper flowers. She prints paper with color gradations, then wraps it in layers around a uniformly-toned core (in place of a typical pencil's graphite), creating a long cylinder to be spun gently through a sharpener. Tiny technicolor petals blossom from the shavings, curling into wispy, whimsical blooms.
