Old Coach House Transformed Into Modern Home Using Materials from Demolished Office

What do you do if you have a wooden office building from the 1950s on your property next to a former coach house from 1895? If you're architect and designer Rolf Bruggink, you see an opportunity to transform an historical building using materials from another space. With the help of fellow architect and designer Niek Wagemans, Bruggink refitted the coach house using materials from the 1950s building, which he'd knocked down after purchasing the property in 2011.

World’s First Carbon-Positive Pre-Fabricated House

This amazing prototype, rolled out by green architectural and manufacturing firm ArchiBlox, is billed as the first pre-fabricated, carbon-positive house. The one bedroom, one bathroom unit ingeniously generates more energy than it uses. The first model was recently installed as an exhibition in a public square in Melbourne, Australia, but the company plans to make more for resale.

Futuristic House Design Concept Harnesses Energy from Ocean Waves

Designer and architect Margot Krasojevic recently revealed designs for this futuristic home concept, called the Hydroelectric Tidal House, in which tidal wave power is harnessed to generate energy. The idea proposes the construction of a structure with an outer and inner shell. The concrete outer shell anchors the house to the beach and uses solar cells to provide an electrical supply to the living area.

Modern Californian Home Features a Rooftop Garage

Built just outside of Los Angeles, the Car Park House by Anonymous takes a traditional home layout and literally flips it upside down. While many homes across the country feature garages adjacent or below the main structure of a residence, parking spots for occupants of this house are found above it all, on the roof.
