22-year-old Daniel Barreto has added a nice twist to the already popular concept of animated GIFs. In his series, titled Animated Double Exposures, the Boston-based artist blends two distinct images into one playful motion.
Puddles ripple across a young boy's silhouette and leaves rustle on top of a grown man's face in the lively depictions that perfectly blend people with nature. On a daily basis, a person presents an exterior presence to the world while also maintaining a more hidden, internal side. Barreto created his series as a way to illustrate those fleeting thoughts that regularly pass through a person's mind.
He explains, “Those thoughts seem, at times, to be all over the place, but sometimes we can experience moments of lucidity where we can see a clear picture on how our mind navigates. Finally we can contemplate ourselves, the actual present and feel.”
