Meet Milo: a 2-year-old Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever that loves nothing more than hanging out in the garden with his butterfly pals. The adorable pup didn’t need any training on how to be gentle with the pretty insects—instead, his owner Jennifer Bennett describes him as “a born butterfly king.”
“Milo is a very curious and happy guy,” Bennett tells My Modern Met. “He always wants to be in the middle of whatever is going on.” Around two years ago, there was a huge migration of vanessa cardui (aka painted lady) butterflies in California, where Milo lives. “There were thousands of them,” recalls Bennett. “There was no way not to notice. He would just sit in the garden and watch them fly by.” Soon after that, the Bennett family decided to start raising monarch butterflies in their garden—much to the delight of Milo. The popular pup will even have his own butterfly calendar coming out soon, with tips on how you can raise the winged insects yourself.
It’s no surprise that Milo has over 30,000 Instagram followers, but he’s also got his own YouTube channel, dedicated to his other passion—cooking! His video series, called Drooling for Treats, features the handsome pup making tasty snacks suitable for dogs. His most recent recipe is “pumpkin butterfly cookies,” inspired by his garden buddies.
