Esta enorme ave carro&ntilde;era tiene una envergadura de hasta 3 metros y un peso similar al de un ni&ntilde;o peque&ntilde;o, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.com\/animals\/birds\/a\/andean-condor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">entre 9 y 13 kilos<\/a>. Recientemente, un grupo de investigadores de la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swansea.ac.uk\/press-office\/news-events\/news\/2020\/07\/experts-high-flying-study-puts-soaring-birds-in-spotlight.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Universidad de Swansea<\/a> colabor&oacute; con cient&iacute;ficos argentinos para estudiar el vuelo de los c&oacute;ndores andinos en su h&aacute;bitat natural. Su objetivo era descubrir la frecuencia y las condiciones meteorol&oacute;gicas en la que esta ave bate las alas para volar, gastando as&iacute; su energ&iacute;a para permanecer o cambiar de altitud.<\/p>\n<p>Al colocar dispositivos especiales de monitoreo en c&oacute;ndores andinos j&oacute;venes, los investigadores pudieron contar cada movimiento de las alas gigantes de las aves. Los resultados mostraron que los c&oacute;ndores andinos pasan muy poco tiempo y gastan muy poca energ&iacute;a batiendo sus alas. Durante el tiempo que las aves estuvieron en el aire, pasaron menos del uno por ciento aleteando. La mayor&iacute;a del movimiento de alas se produjo durante el despegue o cuando volaban cerca del suelo. Estas sorprendentes estad&iacute;sticas&mdash;publicadas en <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnas.org\/content\/early\/2020\/07\/09\/1907360117\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences<\/a>&mdash;tienen grandes implicaciones.<\/p>\n<p>Los investigadores se&ntilde;alaron que, sorprendentemente, los j&oacute;venes p&aacute;jaros que estudiaron podr&iacute;an ser muy eficientes para volar por los cielos. Uno de los c&oacute;ndores no bati&oacute; sus alas por m&aacute;s de cinco horas, planeando a lo largo de m&aacute;s de 160 kil&oacute;metros.
