Desde un mamut en excelentes condiciones hasta plantas antiguas, los cient&iacute;ficos pueden aprender mucho gracias estos descubrimientos biol&oacute;gicos. En 2012, un equipo ruso regener&oacute; una serie de plantas f&eacute;rtiles y florecientes de <em>Silene stenophylla<\/em> a partir de vainas de semillas que datan de 32,000 a&ntilde;os. Este impresionante logro fue detallado en un <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3309767\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">art&iacute;culo<\/a> en las <em>Actas de la Academia Nacional de Ciencias, <\/em>un logro que presagia otros desarrollos que podr&iacute;an surgir del permafrost.<\/p>\n<p>El descubrimiento de las vainas de semillas prehist&oacute;ricas fue parte de una excavaci&oacute;n enfocada en las antiguas madrigueras de hibernaci&oacute;n de ardillas en los dep&oacute;sitos de hielo en Siberia. Los suministros de alimentos de las ardillas hab&iacute;an quedado atrapados y preservados en las madrigueras, ofreci&eacute;ndole a los cient&iacute;ficos una gran cantidad de evidencia biol&oacute;gica. El fruto de <em>Silene stenophylla<\/em> data espec&iacute;ficamente de hace unos 32,000 a&ntilde;os, en la &eacute;poca del Pleistoceno. El hallazgo represent&oacute; todo un desaf&iacute;o para los investigadores de la Academia Rusa de Cient&iacute;ficos. Anteriormente, la planta regenerada m&aacute;s antigua era una palmera datilera de Judea de hace unos 2,000 a&ntilde;os.<\/p>\n<p>El equipo de cient&iacute;ficos primero intent&oacute; utilizar semillas maduras de las vainas de la fruta. Sin embargo, estas semillas no pudieron generar la planta. Luego, probaron con tejido placentario de semillas inmaduras. Usando tecnolog&iacute;a de clonaci&oacute;n, se obtuvieron 36 plantas a partir del material antiguo. Si bien se parec&iacute;an a la moderna <em>Silene stenophylla<\/em> que todav&iacute;a crece en esta regi&oacute;n, una vez que las plantas florecieron, sus p&eacute;talos estaban m&aacute;s espaciados entre s&iacute; que en la versi&oacute;n moderna.
