El arte matem&aacute;tico de crear patrones repetitivos se remonta al a&ntilde;o 4,000 a.C., cuando los sumerios utilizaban azulejos de arcilla para decorar sus casas y templos. Desde entonces, pr&aacute;cticamente todas las dem&aacute;s civilizaciones de la historia adoptaron el uso de teselados tanto en el arte como en la arquitectura.<\/p>\n<p>Sigue leyendo para descubrir la historia de los teselados y c&oacute;mo se sigue utilizando esta compleja teor&iacute;a en la actualidad.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<h2>&iquest;Qu&eacute; es un teselado?<\/h2>\n<p>Una teselaci&oacute;n es cuando una forma geom&eacute;trica (o baldosa) se repite una y otra vez, cubriendo una superficie 2D o 3D sin huecos ni solapamientos. Las configuraciones m&aacute;s comunes son los <strong>teselados regulares<\/strong> y <strong>semirregulares<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Los <strong>mosaicos peri&oacute;dicos<\/strong> <strong>regulares<\/strong> consisten en crear un patr&oacute;n repetitivo a partir de formas poligonales, cada una de las cuales se encuentra de v&eacute;rtice a v&eacute;rtice (el punto de intersecci&oacute;n de tres o m&aacute;s mosaicos lim&iacute;trofes). Un tablero de ajedrez es el ejemplo m&aacute;s sencillo: Est&aacute; formado por baldosas cuadradas de dos colores contrastados (normalmente blanco y negro) que podr&iacute;an repetirse eternamente.<\/p>\n<p>Los <strong>teselados semirregulares<\/strong> se producen cuando dos o m&aacute;s tipos de pol&iacute;gonos regulares se disponen de forma que cada punto de v&eacute;rtice es id&eacute;ntico. El arte religioso isl&aacute;mico se caracteriza por la ausencia de figuras y otros seres vivos. Esto se debe a que muchos musulmanes creen que la creaci&oacute;n de formas vivas debe dejarse exclusivamente a Dios. Por ello, adoptaron las caracter&iacute;sticas abstractas del teselado y utilizaron azulejos geom&eacute;tricos de colores para crear patrones no representativos.<\/p>\n<p>Uno de los ejemplos m&aacute;s famosos del arte del teselado isl&aacute;mico se encuentra en la <a href=\"https:\/\/mymodernmet.com\/es\/alhambra-granada\/\"><strong>Alhambra<\/strong><\/a>, un enorme palacio situado en Granada (Espa&ntilde;a). Fue construido por los moros musulmanes en el siglo XIV y se convirti&oacute; en la residencia real y la corte de Muh&aacute;mmad ibn Y&uacute;suf ibn Nasr. En el interior de la fortaleza, los muros est&aacute;n adornados con innumerables azulejos de colores dispuestos en formaciones geom&eacute;tricas.<\/p>\n<p>En el Islam, el uso de teselados para decorar superficies se denomina <em>zillij<\/em>. Este estilo de mosaico se realiza con piezas cinceladas a mano y colocadas en una base de yeso. Uno de los artistas m&aacute;s famosos que utilizaron ret&iacute;culas geom&eacute;tricas en su obra es <strong>M. C. Escher<\/strong>. Este artista holand&eacute;s, tambi&eacute;n conocido como el &#8220;padre del teselado moderno&#8221;, cre&oacute; azulejos irregulares y entrelazados, con forma de animales y otros objetos naturales.<\/p>\n<p>A pesar de no tener una formaci&oacute;n matem&aacute;tica, Escher ten&iacute;a un ojo para la precisi&oacute;n y una comprensi&oacute;n natural de la geometr&iacute;a. En sus grabados en madera, litograf&iacute;as y dibujos, el artista simplemente buscaba alcanzar el equilibrio, la armon&iacute;a y la perfecci&oacute;n.
