Algunos creen que el t&eacute;rmino proviene de la palabra &aacute;rabe del siglo XIII <em>migramah<\/em>, que significa &#8220;fleco&#8221;. Otros creen que su origen est&aacute; en la palabra turca <em>makrama<\/em>, que se refiere a &#8220;servilleta&#8221; o &#8220;toalla&#8221;, y que era una forma de asegurar las piezas de tejido utilizando los hilos sobrantes a lo largo de la parte superior o inferior de las telas tejidas.<\/p>\n<p>En cualquier caso, el macram&eacute; decorativo aparece por primera vez en grabados de los babilonios y asirios que representan trenzados con flecos utilizados para adornar trajes.
