Lorsque les travaux du premier astronome et physicien moderne <b>Galil&eacute;e<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ont menac&eacute; l'ordre m&ecirc;me du cosmos, il s'est trouv&eacute; un ennemi tr&egrave;s puissant : l'&Eacute;glise catholique.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le scientifique a &eacute;t&eacute; jug&eacute; h&eacute;r&eacute;tique par l'Inquisition et soumis &agrave; une assignation &agrave; r&eacute;sidence prolong&eacute;e. Mais ces efforts n'ont pas pu endiguer la mar&eacute;e de l'<\/span><b>h&eacute;liocentrisme<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> : le concept, d&eacute;sormais de notori&eacute;t&eacute; publique, que la Terre tourne autour du soleil au centre de notre syst&egrave;me solaire. Gr&acirc;ce &agrave; l'utilisation d'un t&eacute;lescope r&eacute;volutionnaire qu'il a lui-m&ecirc;me construit, Galil&eacute;e a pu observer les corps c&eacute;lestes de nouvelles mani&egrave;res. Ses travaux sur les pendules et son invention du thermoscope ont &eacute;t&eacute; ses premi&egrave;res r&eacute;alisations. Il a enseign&eacute; la g&eacute;om&eacute;trie et l'astronomie aux &eacute;tudiants des universit&eacute;s de Pise et de Padoue. &Agrave; cette &eacute;poque, la vision h&eacute;liocentrique de l'univers &eacute;tait r&eacute;pandue, telle qu'elle &eacute;tait postul&eacute;e par Nicolaus Copernicus en 1543. Cependant, &agrave; la fin de 1609, Galil&eacute;e avait cr&eacute;&eacute; une version en bois et en cuir avec un <a href=\"https:\/\/catalogue.museogalileo.it\/object\/GalileosTelescope_n01.html\">grossissement de 21X<\/a>. Avant le t&eacute;lescope, l'univers &eacute;tait &eacute;tudi&eacute; par des mesures prises avec d'autres instruments. L'observation directe d'un ph&eacute;nom&egrave;ne &eacute;tait g&eacute;n&eacute;ralement limit&eacute;e aux capacit&eacute;s de l'&oelig;il humain. Voici comment ils fonctionnaient : une lentille concave et convexe &eacute;taient reli&eacute;es par un long tube. Un oculaire &agrave; lentille de visualisation &agrave; l'extr&eacute;mit&eacute; de la lentille convexe permettait &agrave; quelqu'un de voir l'image r&eacute;fract&eacute;e.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cette configuration a permis des d&eacute;couvertes choquantes. En regardant &agrave; travers son t&eacute;lescope, Galil&eacute;e a d&eacute;couvert que la lune n'est pas une sph&egrave;re parfaite, que Jupiter a des lunes, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atnf.csiro.au\/outreach\/education\/senior\/astrophysics\/galileo.html#:~:text=the%20unaided%20eye%3F-,Galileo's%20Telescopes,eyepiece%20in%20a%20long%20tube.\">V&eacute;nus a travers&eacute; des phases<\/a> et que le soleil tourne. L'&Eacute;glise et la science &eacute;taient intimement li&eacute;es &agrave; l'&eacute;poque. De nombreux partisans du g&eacute;ocentrisme se sont appuy&eacute;s litt&eacute;ralement sur des versets bibliques faisant r&eacute;f&eacute;rence au mouvement du soleil. Cependant, l'&eacute;glise &eacute;tait &eacute;galement un m&eacute;c&egrave;ne de la recherche scientifique et de nombreux pr&ecirc;tres &eacute;rudits s'int&eacute;ressaient au ciel, aux math&eacute;matiques et &agrave; d'autres sujets. Galil&eacute;e, un fervent catholique, n'avait pas l'intention de renverser la religion. En 1615, un fr&egrave;re dominicain &eacute;crivit &agrave; l'Inquisition romaine pour se plaindre de la position controvers&eacute;e de Galil&eacute;e. Apr&egrave;s une enqu&ecirc;te sur ces accusations d'h&eacute;r&eacute;sie, Galil&eacute;e n'a pas (encore) &eacute;t&eacute; reconnu coupable. Cependant, l'Inquisition sous le pape Paul V a d&eacute;clar&eacute; que l'h&eacute;liocentrisme &eacute;tait scientifiquement et th&eacute;oriquement erron&eacute; et a interdit tout discours sur la th&eacute;orie. La <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">R&eacute;volution copernicienne<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> et d'autres livres faisant la promotion de la th&eacute;orie ont &eacute;t&eacute; interdits. Galil&eacute;e lui-m&ecirc;me a &eacute;t&eacute; personnellement averti.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lorsque le pape Urbain VIII a &eacute;t&eacute; &eacute;lu, Galil&eacute;e &eacute;tait dans les bonnes gr&acirc;ces du pape. Son travail comparant les mod&egrave;les g&eacute;ocentriques et h&eacute;liocentriques, intitul&eacute; <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dialogue sur les deux grands syst&egrave;mes du monde<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a &eacute;t&eacute; publi&eacute; en 1632 avec l'approbation du pape et de l'Inquisition. Cependant, il semble que l'&eacute;glise n'ait pas anticip&eacute; le v&eacute;ritable impact des travaux. Pr&eacute;sent&eacute;s en contraste, les m&eacute;rites des deux th&eacute;ories &eacute;taient in&eacute;gaux, malgr&eacute; ce que les historiens s'accordent &agrave; dire comme &eacute;tant les meilleurs efforts de Galil&eacute;e.
