Artistic Tractor Imprints Intricate Patterns on the Beach

When I'm at the beach, I like to create patterns in the sand, but I've never created something as spectacular as this! In A Sign In Space, Artist Gunilla Klingberg created a special system where graphic patterns are created from the treads fixed onto the wheel of a beach tractor. Along Spain's Laga Beach, Klingberg drives the tractor during low tide to build beautiful and repetitive graphic patterns across the sand. As the tide comes in, the designs slowly wash away.

As part of this public art project, Klingberg follows the lunar and tidal calendar to create the patterns over and over again during low tide, only to watch them erase throughout the day. The artist says, “After the printing has been made on the beach the pattern is erased both by the sea at high tide as well as by people's footprints and in some hours it is all gone. Maybe one might reflect on the impermanence of all things.”

If you enjoy these magnificent yet fleeting graphic patterns created in warm weather environments, you may also love these gorgeous snow art designs by artist Simon Beck.
