Nature-Infused Book Art and Collages by Johannes Helden

Artist Johannes Heldn has a passion for poetry and a knack for storytelling. “I didn't draw all the time, but I did read all the time, so story is always important,” he said. “I'm interested in telling a story, but not in a traditional way.”

While he works in a variety of mediums, in recent years, the visual artist and author has made the subject of nature take center stage. This is evident particularly in his book art, where lily pads and leaves seem to flow over covers, and his paper collages, where fantastic fields and river banks are framed and on display. There's a sense of movement you feel in each of his works. Helden describes it this way, “Even though reality dissolves and what's left is a meaningless jumble, there is still something that gives hope, an idea of progress.”
