Since 2015, self-described “tiny artist” Irene Malakhova has specialized in miniature paintings. Working in watercolors and predominantly inspired by animals, the Russian painter has recently compiled a collection of little living things for her #tiny_creaturesdays series.
Malakhova’s series of paintings feature a range of cuddly and cute animals, from playful kittens and puppies to baby birds and bees. Though each animal measures no more than a single square inch, every one is rendered in an extraordinary amount of detail. This meticulous approach to the craft is evident in everything from the fine lines of the animals’ fuzz, fur, and feathers to the expressive looks on their faces. In addition to her skilled drafting skills, Malakhova is also an expert in tonality, elevating each #tiny_creaturesdays painting from adorable sketch to realistic depiction.
While Malakhova’s Instagram exhibits her passion for animals, it also showcases an eclectic interest in all sorts of subject matter. Small still-lifes, little landscapes, and even tiny pop culture staples are also among her oeuvre. Like her #tiny_creaturesdays paintings, these miniature portrayals illustrate her undeniable artistic abilities, wide range of interests, and, of course, her unwavering patience!
