Modern Architecture – Great Metropolis: Bangkok

Translated “Great Metropolis,” MahaNakhon is set to become the tallest building in Bangkok when completed in 2010.

Designed by German architect Ole Scheeren of Office for Metropolitan Architecture, the 77 story, 1.6 million square foot (150,000 sq m) project includes luxury retail spaces, lush gardens and terraces, restaurants, cafes, 200 homes, a boutique hotel, and a multi-level Skybar and restaurant with 360 views of the city.

A band of shifted, box-like elements breaks up the surface and creates terraces and balconies. The tower's “pixels” have been designed to maximize unobstructed panoramas for the residences, offering unparalleled views of the city.
