Oftentimes, nature photography is set against the busy wildlife background of an animal's natural habitat. As gorgeous as these photographs are, sometimes the elaborate beauty of the scene distracts from the distinct features of each animal. French photographer Patrick Bouquet has identified a solution to this problem. In his animal photography, he narrows in on each animal's exquisite details by prominently placing his subjects against a dark background, eliminating the many distracting elements that cause visual confusion.
Through these photographs, Bouquet focuses on the brilliant features and expressions of all kinds of creatures. Viewers have the opportunity to investigate the wispy whiskers of a cheetah, to examine the ruffled layers of a parrot's feathers, and to stare directly into the intense gaze of a gorilla. The artist says, “Colors and contrasts, lights and memories. Seeing all, enjoying all, that is why I love photography.”
