Gravity-Defying 1,000-Pound Steel Table

While London-based designer Paul Cocksedge has become fairly well-known for his magical light installations, it is his newest gravity-defying sculptural piece that has caught the eye of art aficionados. The Poised Table may seem like a physical impossibility, but, due to very careful mathematical calculations, this 1,000-pound table is entirely stable. The rolled steel design is actually so solid that you can stand on the overhanging edge without falling over.

If you want to experience this illusively balanced structure in person, it is currently on display at Cocksedge's first solo exhibition titled Paul Cocksedge: Capture at New York's Friedman Benda gallery through October 12th.
