Street Artist Creates Alice in Wonderland and a 3D Rabbit Hole

Italian artist and street painter Vera Bugatti recently visited Ireland to participate in the Wicklow Arts Fest 2014. During the weekend event, she worked with painter friend Luigi Legno to produce this magical 3D painting that looks as if characters from Alice in Wonderland are climbing out of an imaginary hole in the ground.

The piece was produced to reflect the festival's theme, “Explore.” It took two days to complete and the final size was approximately 13×13 feet large. Alice, drawn with an Irish flag in her hand to suggest that maybe she is a citizen of Ireland, appears quite sad in the thought-provoking piece which leaves much room for interpretation. In addition to the young girl, the artists said “We inserted the scary rabbit that is coming out of the hole with a clock in his hand and a small flying machine in the landscape is waiting for the trip.”

Bugatti and Legno set up a tripod with a lens so that visitors to the space could view the piece from the proper point of view. During the event, people lined up to look through the glass and to see the perspective drawing come alive right before their eyes.
