Gorgeous Baroque Dressing Table Created by Wood Burning

In his Born 2B Burn furniture collection, Ukranian designer Yarsolav Galant uses the technique of wood burning to produce a striking charred surface. The furniture is exposed to short-term extreme heat (nearly 2000F!) which carbonizes the surface without damaging the core.

After it has cooled down, the furniture is infused with a special substance called epioftonol that Galant invented himself. It fixes and strengthens the burnt surface through a crystallization process that can take anywhere from a week to a month. The concentration of epioftonol used can adjust the color and texture of the piece before it is finally varnished and ready for the home.
