Profili di Milano (Profiles of Milan) is a unique black and white series that merges the Italian city with the people who live there. Created by designer and photographer Francesco Paleari, each composition is an abstract mix of a single portrait with Milan's historic architecture. The artist uses the shapes of the buildings to create the right side of the image while maintaining the distinct facial features of each person on the left.
Paleari describes his camera as, “A tool to extract and fix particular aspects of reality,” and he certainly achieves that through these manipulations. In each image, the distinction between a person's face and the curves of a rooftop or the peak of a basilica are perfectly united. Through his work, Paleari tells the story of an extraordinary city and the important role that its residents play in making that city thrive.
