Sara Barnes is a Staff Editor at My Modern Met, Manager of My Modern Met Store, and co-host of the My Modern Met Top Artist Podcast. As an illustrator and writer living in Seattle, she chronicles illustration, embroidery, and beyond through her blog Brown Paper Bag and Instagram @brwnpaperbag. She wrote a book about embroidery artist Sarah K. Benning titled "Embroidered Life" that was published by Chronicle Books in 2019. Sara is a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art. She earned her BFA in Illustration in 2008 and MFA in Illustration Practice in 2013.

Woman Sets Up Tiny Feeder Cam to Capture Birds Eating in Her Backyard

Wild birds can be a challenge to study because they often fly away just as you approach them. Lisa, aka Ostdrossel, is fascinated by our feathered friends and has an ingenious setup that allows her to get very close to them—without scaring them away. She uses her feeder cam to remote capture incredible pictures of a variety of species as they nosh on tasty bird feed.

Awe-Inspiring Winners of the 2019 Underwater Photographer of the Year Contest

The Underwater Photographer of the Year was just announced for 2019, and the winning images offer an enchanting breadth of what’s beyond the shoreline. For the fourth year in a row, the photo competition has represented different aspects of the ocean through a variety of categories. Winners were chosen in 14 fields including Wide Angle, Macro, Behavior, and Portrait. Each winning image showcases a different aspect of the underwater world.

Traveling Photographer Captures Natural Beauty of People Met on Streets of India

Photography affords us the opportunity to travel without ever leaving our home. Adventurous souls like Magdalena Bagrianow use their innate sense of curiosity to reveal new corners of the world to viewers. Originally from Poland and now based in the UK, she traveled to India and shot gorgeous portrait photos of the people that live there. Bagrianow spent months initially exploring the country and meeting the residents in their natural environment.

Abandoned Airport Terminal Given New Life as a Retro-Inspired Luxury Hotel

New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport has a new addition that's a blast from the past. The airport recently introduced its first on-airport hotel that pays homage to the former Trans World Airlines (TWA). Once one of the country's largest airlines, it began operations in 1930 and shuttered its doors in 2001; the Flight Center at JFK closed that same year. The expansive space has since been repurposed into a luxury accommodation aptly called TWA Hotel.
