Clever Combinations of Illustrations and Wood Carvings Create Extraordinary Miniature Cities

Luke O'Sullivan uses a combination of drawings and sculptural carvings to construct wondrous urban landscapes. His extensive metropolitan pieces strike a balance between recognizable architecture and impossible structures in order to create fantastical subterranean systems. The 3-D architectural carvings protrude into space, similar to a diorama display, but O'Sullivan purposively ensures that his miniature worlds are rooted partially in reality and partially in the absurd.

Visually Satisfying Symmetry of Ornate Hungarian Buildings

Symmetry and architecture go hand in hand, as buildings require that natural balance in everything from layout to design elements. Hungarian artist Zsolt Hlinka explores this concept with his series of perfectly balanced buildings in a series titled Urban Symmetry. The photographer presents a collection of exactly symmetrical representations of buildings captured along the banks of the Danube River en route through Budapest.

Parisian Pavilion Created with 180 Recycled Wooden Doors

As part of the recently completed COP21, an experimental architecture project known as the Circular Pavilion opened its many doors for exhibitions and public debates in Paris. Designed by Encore Heureux Architects, the temporary structure is composed entirely of reused materials: from recovered wooden doors and used wooden exhibition panels to discarded furniture and abandoned street lights.
