Giant Mirror Installation Invites the Public to Step Inside a Kaleidoscope of Color

New York City-based design studio SOFTlab has unveiled a new, interactive public artwork in Alexandria, Virginia. Mirror Mirror is a kaleidoscope of color formed from an open circle that is 25 feet in diameter and 8 feet high. The structure invites visitors in, allowing them to move from the mirrored exterior into the rainbow interior. As the light changes, shapes and shadows dance in the reflections produced by both surfaces, creating mesmerizing patterns on the ground.

British artist Phlegm brings his signature characters to life in an epic solo show staged in his adopted hometown of Sheffield. Known for his elongated, fantastical figures that look like a modern bestiary drawn in black and white, Phlegm has easily translated his painted murals into three-dimensional sculptures with Mausoleum of Giants. Artist Uses Recycled Textile Waste to Handcraft Ocean-Inspired Rugs and Tapestries

Portuguese artist Vanessa Barragão pays homage to the ocean with her incredible sculptural textile art. Her textured woolen rugs, tapestries, and wall hangings are made using a variety of techniques to transform discarded industrial textile waste into forms that mimic the organic coral structures found in the sea. Her recent works, Coral Garden and Ocean Tapestry address the huge scale at which the textile industry pollutes the natural environment.

Artist Livestreams Images of Earth from Space in Mesmerizing Public Art Installation

Chilean artist Sebastian Errazuriz is known for his captivating public art installations, but his latest piece—titled blu Marble—is quite literally out of this world. The experimental project involves a monumental 20-foot LED structure depicting a live stream of Earth from space. Installed in the middle of New York City, the illuminated spherical sculpture invites the public to contemplate human existence. “Blu Marble is a reminder of our miraculously fragile existence,” explains Sebastian Errazuriz.
