Floating “Garden” of Embroidered Thread Drawings Brings Nature Indoors

Lately, we’ve seen many incredible artists creatively pushing the boundaries of embroidery, but Toronto-based Amanda McCavour is one artist that has literally taken her stitching skills to the next level. The talented artist constructs three-dimensional embroidery art installations, featuring delicate textile motifs that float in gallery spaces. Describing her work as “thread drawings,” McCavour uses a sewing machine to illustrate her designs on a special type of water-soluble fabric called Solvy.

Artist Creates Web-Like Portraits From a Single Unbroken Thread

Slovenia-based artist Sašo Krajnc (aka Cvern) handcrafts incredible string art portraits made with unbroken pieces of sewing thread. Each piece appears like a textile spirograph, featuring countless lines of black thread interwoven and tightly wound around circular, nail-clad, aluminum and wooden frames. Each piece starts as a single line and evolves into a complex, crisscrossed drawing.

Artist Candice Bees is a woman of many creative talents. Formally trained as an illustrator, her practice has since shifted into making wire animal sculptures. But she hasn’t abandoned her drawing sensibilities; instead, she bundles the metal wire into dense forms that have an energetic quality to them, as if she scrawled them in pen and ink. Bees’ work is informed by the countless hours she’s spent around different species of animals.

Incredible 3D GIFs Created with a Simple Visual Effect

Animated gifs seem to be everywhere these days, but some gif creators are taking the visual experience of viewing quick clips of silent motion to another level. By carefully adding a couple of solid-colored (typically white), vertical lines to the moving images, an incredible three-dimensional effect is created. As characters and objects move into the foreground, they seemingly extend beyond the barrier of the image.
