13,000 Strands of Yarn Cast a Shimmering Rainbow Inside the Mall of America

The mall hardly seems like the place to view incredible creative installations, but artist Eric Rieger, aka HOTTEA, proves us wrong with his stunning work of yarn art at the Mall of America (MOA). Called Hot Lunch, the impressive piece is composed of 13,000 individual strands of yarn in an array of 103 colors. Together, they hang 60 feet in length from the ceiling of North America’s largest shopping and entertainment complex.

Husband and Wife Collaborate on Intricate Lace Tattoos That Delicately Drape Over the Skin

Less often, imagery is the work of a husband and wife team—but such is the case of Italian tattoo artist Marco Manzo and his wife Francesca Boni. Their intricate, large-scale lace tattoo designs are initially rendered by Boni and then applied to skin and brought to life by Manzo.

Unraveled Rope Installations Form Delicate Networks of Roots, Branches, and Veins

Using unraveled rope as a sculptural medium, Janaina Mello Landini creates intricate art inspired by branches. Cleverly titled Ciclotramas—a combination of the words “cycle” and trama, a Latin weaving term—the series of rope installations transforms an ordinary and overlooked material into an eye-catching artistic tool. Most of Landini's Ciclotrama sculptures are composed of a single piece of colorful rope attached to a canvas. By meticulously unbraiding certain sections of the twisted cord, the artist creates a complex network of intertwining branches.
