23-Year-Old Welds Metal Canvases to Create Psychedelic Portraits

Engineer Richard Lauth uses his imaginative expertise to demonstrate how welding can serve an unexpected art form. Lauth himself prefers a TIG welding technique, which utilizes a tungsten electrode to deliver a current to the welding site. The puddle that forms is then cooled with a gas. While this undertaking appears quite straightforward, it does require an expert amount of skill. In order to achieve a rainbow-like effect, welders must maintain proper heat control and pressure.

Gigantic Wooden Megaphones Amplify the Quiet Sounds of a Natural Forest

On display in an Estonian forest near Tallinn is ruup, an installation of three gigantic wooden megaphones that amplify the typically-quiet sounds of nature. The project was created by interior architecture students at the Estonian Academy of the Arts, and it's intended as a site of relaxation. Here, visitors can enjoy the symphony of the forest–faintly chirping birds, rustling leaves, and babbling brooks are now within earshot.

Majestic Animals Envisioned as Hundreds of Multicolored Dots

London-based artist Ana Enshina uses her creative eye to envision majestic animals as an abundance of multicolored spots. Dot by dot, the watercolorist forms diverse creatures including a statuesque, bright pink flamingo, a graceful whale suspended in the sea, and a distinguished peacock with a lovely array of feathers. Whether she's focusing on animals found on land or sea, the painter manages to capture each creature in a rainbow of brilliant and lively colors.
