MMM Exclusive: Experiencing Jaume Plensa’s "Wonderland"

When I visited Calgary earlier this year to cover Beakerhead, I had the pleasure of walking around the city with an extremely talented photographer, Neil Zeller. When we approached Calgary's tallest tower, The Bow, this amazing sculpture by Jaume Plensa named Wonderland immediately caught my attention. What stood out most was how remarkable it looked from several distinct angles. The wire mesh piece stands 39-feet-high and resembles a young girl's head.

Old Romania Salt Mines Converted Into 370ft Deep Museum

Inside the old Salina Turda Salt Mines located in Transylvania, Romania, stands the world's largest salt mine museum. Originally established in the 17th century, the massive mines were formed completely by hand and machine rather than by using explosives. Visitors are invited to descend as far down as almost 400 feet into the Earth in order to witness the history of the trade.

First Look: Audrey Kawasaki’s Gorgeous Wood Panel Paintings

Los Angeles-based artist Audrey Kawasaki is back with a gorgeous new set of wood panel paintings she's created just for Thinkspace gallery's new show at SCOPE art fair in Miami Beach. Running during Art Basel week, or December 3 to December 8, SCOPE brings together over 100 intentional galleries all under one roof, which each feature work from emerging contemporary artists. This year, SCOPE is at its new location, a huge 70,000 sq. ft.

Joshua Tree’s Hypnotically Reflective Desert Shack

Lucid Stead is an architectural installation by artist Phillip K. Smith III that takes an existing structure in the deserts of Joshua Tree, California and revitalizes it with mirrors, LED lights, and custom built technology to accentuate the beauty of the bare landscape. Aptly referred to as an “architectural intervention,” the 70-year-old homesteader shack's weathered and worn stature is transformed into a remarkable vision that makes viewers question whether they are hallucinating.
