Breathtaking Surreal Art (6 pieces)

We've described surreal art and photography in many different ways – shocking, sweet, and even beautiful yet dark. One word we haven't used yet is breathtaking. Xetobyte is a 20-year-old IT student who creates pieces that are just that. All of his photo manipulations have a dark element to them but they're individually strong and stunning. I particularly love his use of repetitive objects like clocks, umbrellas, swings, butterflies, and birds.

Feeling Your Absence (8 pics)

Artist Mathilde Roussel-Giraudy asks you to reflect on the loss of a loved one with her creative sculpture series Empreinte. She cut and stitched a real pillow, and then cast it with plaster to make a mold for the ceramic piece. She also used a wool sweater and covered it with resin to make it look stiff and hollow inside. From sketch to final execution, these pieces took her a month to complete.

Scotland’s Giant Mermaid (8 photos)

Standing 33 feet tall, a giant metal mermaid guards the entrance to the Scottish town of Cumbernauld. Her name is Arria, and she is beautiful. Designed by English sculptor Andy Scott, Arria stretches out her arms towards the town as if to protect it. The sculpture costs over $400,000, but residents are hopeful that she will bring them prosperity and good luck.

Unbelievable 3D Drawings by Chilean Artist Fredo

These three-dimensional pencil drawings by Chilean artist Fredo are absolutely mind-blowing! The 17-year-old prodigy draws objects that look like they're about to jump off the page! In fact, by taking pictures of his art at just the right angle, it's hard to differentiate what's real and what's not. Though there is no doubt that Fredo has been inspired by artists who have come before him, such as M.C.
