Space-Saving Apartment in Japan Doubles as Purrfect Cat Playground

When you think of a cat friendly apartment, the mental image probably isn’t pretty. Much of the feline furniture (think scratchers and perching posts) that's on the market is made from carpet that seems to clash with any decor. An airy 915 square feet (85 square meters) unit in Japan, however, defies this convention and marries beautiful interior design with the types of furnishings cats love.

In 2015, Peter Pichler Architecture and Pavol Mikolajcak Architekt won a competition to design the stunning Obereggen Mountain Hut. The building, which also contains a restaurant, towers over the picturesque Oberholz Slope at 2,096 meters (6,877 feet) above sea level.

For a recent project, White turned a teeny trailer into a spacious home by innovatively installing a movable, elevating bed that transforms its surroundings with the push of a button. Situated above a cozy sofa, the elevating bed offers a space-saving alternative to traditional furniture.
