30 Artists Around the World Celebrate the Intricacies of Small Work in Miniature Art Show

Miniature art may be small but it’s compelling in its attention to detail—every element of a subject is scaled-down and often able to fit in the palm of your hand. The Beinart Gallery in Melbourne is hosting an exhibition dedicated to creatives that craft these tiny yet mighty works of art. Aptly called Miniature Art Group Show, the exhibition is co-curated by artist Joshua Smith (known for his incredible scaled-down buildings)

Stark White Paper Cities Made From Dozens of Cut and Layered Sheets of Paper

Artist Ayumi Shibata practices the Japanese art of paper cutting to create layered, three-dimensional sculptures. By using dozens (and sometimes over 100) sheets of paper, Shibata crafts intricate cityscapes and forests that are compiled into hand-bound books and contained inside glass jars. When illuminated by light, the tiers of white paper glow to express a cinematic depth. Not only is paper a convenient and inexpensive material, but it also has deep significance for the artist.

Artist Turns Nuts, Bolts, and Scrap Metal Into Life-Size Animal Sculptures

While most of us dispose of old car parts and unused cutlery at the dump, Aloha, Oregon-based artist Brian Mock turns scrap metal into fantastic outdoor sculptures. He collects use and discarded materials—such as screws, nuts, and bolts—and assembles them into human and animal forms. Mock has been exploring a number of artistic practices from an early age, but discovered his love of upcycling art in the 1990s.
