Expressive Seascape Paintings Created With a Palette Knife

Liliana Gigovic Landscape Painting

Beaches are known for the mercurial movements of their waves. And although it may seem difficult to capture the ephemeral scenes of the seaside, artist Liliana Gigovic has done just that. Her expressive seascape paintings depict the mutable weather and kaleidoscopic colors of the ocean using broad brushstrokes and a palette knife.

Based in Melbourne, Australia, Gigovic finds creative inspiration in the many nearby beaches. She employs a mix of styles, including Impressionism, to portray the fluidity of seascapes in different seasons and at different hours of the day. Gigovic's palette is typically composed of similar soft hues, which imbue a sense of mist and delicacy. Additionally, through using wide, expressive brushstrokes and a palette knife to apply the oil paint, the artist creates layers of geometrical shapes. These loosely defined subjects are what give her composition a sense of spontaneity and time. It seems as though Gigovic's gentle, pastel paintings celebrate the beauty of small passing moments.

Gigivoci's original paintings are available for purchase via bluethumb. And, to keep up to date with the artist's latest creations, you can follow her on Instagram.
