Interview: Painter Reveals the Past and Present of Landscapes in Giant Brushstrokes

Artist David Ambarzumjan is enamored with the wonders of our world and celebrates their beguiling essence through surreal paintings. In his ongoing series called Brushstrokes in Time, the 20-year-old juxtaposes (mostly) present-day landscapes with scenes from the past. He does so in dramatic fashion—large brushstrokes occupy most of the compositions and act as portals into another time. The brushstrokes showcase another moment in time, and they also double as the lightning rods for change.

Street art duo PichiAvo, who have worked together since 2007, took their mix of classic and contemporary art to new heights by creating an 85-foot (26-meter) painted sculpture for Valencia's Fallas Festival. Artist Drills into Antique Ceramics to Transform Them into Exquisite Pieces of Jewelry

Artist Gésine Hackenberg transforms ceramic plates, bowls, and dishes into exquisite pieces of jewelry. Using dinnerware as her raw material, she extracts small discs from them and strings them together like beads or inlays them among metal for earrings and rings. Hackenberg tends to focus on the decorative part of a plate or bowl, such as popular Delft patterns, which results in colorful and unassuming pieces of wearable art.
