10,000 Pounds of Ocean Plastic Is Turned Into a Leaping 38-Foot-Tall Whale

In response to the estimated 150 million tons of plastic trash currently in the ocean, Brooklyn-based architecture and design firm StudioKCA has created an incredible installation for the Bruges Triennial.  Skyscraper (the Bruges Whale) is a 38-foot-tall whale fabricated from 5 tons of plastic waste fished from the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans. As a stunning commentary on our current environmental state, the sculpture is a powerful reminder of what we are pumping into our oceans.

Monumental Keith Haring Mural Uncovered in Amsterdam After Being Hidden for 30 Years

After being hidden for nearly 30 years, a massive mural by Pop Art pioneer and street artist Keith Haring has made its (second) grand debut in Amsterdam. At 40 feet tall, this piece is the late artist's largest public work, making its recent uncovering even more monumental. Rendered in his signature line art style, the piece depicts a cartoon-y scene typical of Haring: a faceless person riding on the back of a fantastical animal hybrid.

British mixed media artist Lizzie Campbell (aka Clay Disarray) recreates famous paintings with colorful polymer clay. Resembling the style of classic claymation characters, the artist’s playful Polymer Paintings look like they belong on the walls of a Wallace and Gromit set. From a Frida Kahlo self-portrait to Johannes Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, each piece of sculptural wall art is made from wire and layers of FIMO modeling clay.

Artist Spends 15 Months Constructing Ghostly Pirate Ship With Ordinary Found Materials

Tattooist Jason Stieva has been creating assemblage art for almost 20 years, extending his creativity beyond the flesh and into three-dimensional space. For the past nine years, he's been working on his Gothic Times series, which began when he acquired a portion of an old clockmakers estate. Mixing cases and mechanisms with other found materials, his sculptures are wildly surreal and filled with detail.
