Artist Draws Countless Lines and Dots to Capture the Majestic Beauty of Mountains

Inspired by her local landscape, Canada-based artist Christa Rijneveld creates pen and ink drawings of mountainous scenery. Each stark and stylized piece is rendered entirely in black and white, allowing the artist to focus on form and experiment with tonality. Though most of Rijneveld's inked landscapes depict different scenes, they have compositional characteristics in common. In each depiction, a line drawing of rocky mountains dominates the foreground.

Surreal Optical Illusion Paintings Fuse Two Magical Scenes into One

The magical realism of artist Robert Gonsalves will make you do a double take. From one glance to another, his fantastical paintings display at least two different scenes. Trees morph into ghost-like figures while bedroom interiors suddenly become a sprawling forest. In each of these confounding compositions, the line between the multiple stories is a blurry one. There’s a sense of childlike wonder in Gonsalves’ paintings.

Giant Lion Carved from Single Tree Trunk Took 20 People 3 Years to Complete

Taking 20 people more than 3 years, a single tree trunk has been carved into a giant lion titled Oriental Lion. Sculptor Dengding Rui Yao led the team in carving out the enormous redwood trunk, which is now located in Fortune Plaza Times Square in Wuhan, the capital of China’s Hubei Province. The artists worked on the mammoth sculpture in Myanmar before it traveled a little over 3,000 miles in December 2015 to China. Measuring in at 47.
