Artist Cuts a Meditative Fortress of Paper Strips

Japanese artist Sachiko Abe cuts fine strips of paper for hours on end in her performance series titled Cut Papers. Having first discovered the calming effects of shredding paper over 15 years ago while admitted at an insane asylum, the artist now explores the act's meditative properties as an art form. Abe most recently performed Cut Papers #13 this year at the 18th Biennale of Sydney at Cockatoo Island.

Mystifying Sculptures Appear to Float in Mid-Air

The Virgins of Apeldoorn is a public installation in the Netherlands by Dutch artist Elisabet Stienstra. The sculptural work features three bronze statues of girls in varying positions, all seeming to lie parallel to the ground. Their hair and the cloth of their dress hangs below them as though they are sleeping on an invisible bed in midair. The intriguing figurative pieces are each presented in an almost cyclical composition.

Spectacular Mosaics Made of Sand and Shells

Ukrainian artist Svetlana Ivanchenko uses materials typically found on a beach to produce incredibly captivating mosaics. Inspired by the environments whence they came from, Ivanchenko has produced countless portraits and scenes of exotic women roaming across deserts and oceans. It's hard to believe that all of the images are made entirely of such commonly overlooked shoreline materials, but they also seems like the most perfect elements to construct Ivanchenko's mosaics with.

Giant Horse Head Sculptures Stand 30 Feet High

British artist Nic Fiddian-Green is best known for his signature sculptures of giant horse heads, which are often inspired by his own chestnut hunter George. He casts all of his own work rather than sending it out to be produced in a factory, and each piece is a one-of-a-kind, distinct carving, formed out of bronze and beaten lead. Still Water is a bronze installation located in London, England.
