Juxtaposing Animals in Surreal Scenarios

Through his highly creative artwork, Jacub Gagnon tells us a story that can be seen as both sweet or disturbing – a showcase of how humans manipulate and borrow from nature. A recent graduate from Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD), Gagnon is regarded as one of Toronto's great emerging contemporary artists. “The only way a kid can survive life in a small rural town is through imagination,” says Gagnon.

Viral Instagram Photo of San Diego’s Fireworks Fail

It's the Instagram photo that's soaring through the web. Ben Baller took this incredible shot of one of the biggest fails in fireworks history. Last night, if you were in San Diego you may have witnessed the result of a technical glitch that caused what was suppose to be 18 minutes of fireworks to go off in about 15 seconds. Ironically, San Diego's Independence Day Fireworks spectacular is called the “Big Bay Boom.

Intricately Designed Linocut Portraits

In 2010, graphic designer Hubert Tereszkiewicz earned his BFA from the University of Silesia in Cieszyn, Poland. While most of his works lie heavily in poster design, the young artist enjoys exploring traditional design techniques like printmaking. In his series of linocuts, simply labeled as Linocuts, Tereszkiewicz intricately carves sheets of linoleum to produce delicately stylized portraits. The amount of meticulous detail in each square-inch is breathtaking.

Like a beautifully wrapped present, this stunning self-portrait by 21-year-old Olga Valeska got dropped into our inbox today. Where does the dress end and the water begin? The France-based, self-taught fine art photographer amazes us with her skills, not just for taking pictures but for creating them. “Early on, as a child, I found shelter in my imagination,” she writes.
