Interview: Gorgeous Pastel Portraits by Emma Uber

Artist Emma Uber has an incredible knack for paintings faces. Her series of pastel portraits involves beautifully detailed–and mainly feminine–faces that blend into backgrounds filled with thick, vibrant strokes, drips and smears of paint, and bursts of colorful shapes and flowers. Her use of a strong color palette and aggressive strokes, set against the soft features and expressionless faces, sparks an intense curiosity about each of her subjects.

Crosshatched Ink Portrait Stencils

Best known for his stencil and spray paint work, artist Kris Trappeniers has undertaken a new art project involving an artist's most basic materials – ink and paper. The Belgium-based artist's series of illustrations, known as Analog haftones, feature contemporary portraits of ordinary people as well as familiar faces of old Hollywood. Trappeniers utilizes a raw, crosshatching style.

Being Drawn Into Multilayered Torn Photographs

Artist Scott Hazard's Photo Constructs series uses an interesting method to draw in the viewer. The Raleigh, North Carolina-based landscape artist carves into multiple photos that are layered atop one another, producing a three-dimensional perspective into a transcendent passageway. He uses this technique, creating a topographical rendering, in place of clouds, chimney smoke and randomly-placed portals.

Recycled Aluminum Can Mosaics

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! Arizona-based artist Jeff Ivanhoe is the master of this catch phrase. He finds soda and beer cans from friends, family, recyclers, and stores and reuses them by turning them into these incredibly inspiring mosaics. His background in art, advertising, and art direction, combined with his wife's talents as a designer and art director led them to the discovery of this art form and they dubbed it AluMosaics.
