Geometric Street Painting Runs Through Switzerland Village

Talk about the old world and the new world colliding! Every year, the small Switzerland ski town village of Vercorin asks artists to come and create works during the summer months. They're not looking for a singular sculpture, they're interested in creative projects that incorporate the entire village. In 2010, Lang/Baumann was asked to take on this challenge.

Magnificent Date Stamp Artwork

That's not a photograph or a painting you're looking at. It's actually made using something many people have sitting in their office – a normal date stamp. Berlin-based artist Federico Pietrella layers ink dates to create the gradients desired for the scene so that when viewed from a distance, they all blend together, revealing an impressive portrait or city scene.

Sweet Idea: Rothko-Inspired Cookies

It's not often you see a “sweet” art tribute like this. Mimi O. Chun, design director of General Assembly, recently created these Rothko-inspired cookies that have his signature “multiform” style (or blocks of varied colors). Chun posted the picture of her cookies on Instagram with the description “Rothko tribute” and the image has since started making its way around the web. Many are even urging her to make a full series.

New Spectacular Skateboard Artwork by Haroshi

Japanese artist Haroshi creates some truly impressive sculptures out of a very uncommon medium. By taking old, broken, or abandoned skateboards, he repurposes them for his artwork. We've featured his stellar pieces before, and now he's back with some more incredible recycled skateboard deck works. The new set features astounding and colorful carvings of a fire hydrant, a full length arm, an enormous skateboard wheel, a playable guitar, and an unfinished dog head.
