Artist Reflects on Life During Pregnancy by Drawing Trees From Around the World

Artist Dina Brodsky wowed us with her miniature landscape paintings last year, and she has since embarked on another nature-inspired series she calls The Secret Life of Trees. The basic idea behind the project is to illustrate 126 different trees from all corners of the world, celebrating these life-giving plants that so many of us overlook in our day-to-day lives.

Artist Cleverly Uses Coffee to Paint Reproductions of Classic Portraits

What if Mona Lisa's smile was sparked by a few sips of espresso and Degas' dancers were fueled by cappuccinos? Artist Karen Eland is giving new meaning to the term “latte art” in her illustrations, which celebrate the caffeinated beverage as both the medium and the message: she creates reproductions of classic paintings using a mix of coffee and water, integrating a cup of joe (or a full carafe) into the imagery of every scene.

Figurative Papier-Mâché Lamp Sculptures Illuminate a Room with Ethereal Elegance

For nearly 10 years, Sophie Mouton-Perrat and Frédéric Guibrunet have combined soft lighting with delicate paper craft to create ethereal sculptures. Working under the name Papier à êtres, the duo uses the papier mâché technique to construct life-sized women clad in elegant, billowing gowns that double as lamps. The top portion of the unconventional, all-white lantern features the ladies’ upper bodies while their pleated skirts illuminate the space.
