Ingenious Rocking Chair Knits a Hat for You as You Sway Back and Forth

Knitting and sitting in a rocking chair are both relaxing activities that designers Damien Ludi and Colin Peillex have combined into one innovative, low-tech piece of furniture. Aptly dubbed Rocking Knit, this multitasking chair uses kinetic energy, produced from the rocker's gliding motion, to knit a winter hat as you gently sway back and forth. The chair both resembles and is used as a typical wooden glider.

Paris Aquarium Lets Guests Sleep in Submerged Glass Room Surrounded by 35 Sharks

Airbnb is giving “sleeping with the fishes” a whole new (and very literal) meaning. They've recently collaborated with the French design agency Ubi Bene on an underwater suite that's completely encased in glass and submerged 10 meters deep in water. Its transparent walls offer an immersive, panoramic view of 35 live sharks that are swimming outside. Simply put: this circular room is not for the faint of heart.

Ingenious Lamps Allow Plants to Grow Indoors without Direct Sunlight or Water

Designers Emilia Lucht and Arne Sebrantke (of Studio We Love Eames) developed a lamp that allows plant lovers to grow greenery anywhere. By using LED lights in place of direct sunlight, the Myrdal Plantlamp is able to create its own self-sustaining ecosystem. This allows the product to mimic the process of photosynthesis, so no water or care is required on our end.

Meticulously Carved Layers of Paper Revealed Behind Peeling Wallpaper

Charles Cray provides a unique perspective of the world, using layers and layers of precisely carved paper to communicate his vision. His unsettling microcosms call to mind words such as ooze, growth, and spread. These associations are deliberate as Cray draws inspiration for his pieces from concepts such as sound waves, fungus cultures, and microbial diseases. Garish colours invite interactions between his work and audience, where one may intrinsically withdraw for fear of infection.
