Chinese Bookstore’s Chandeliers Look Like Sheets of Paper Floating in Mid-Air

The Chinese city of Xi'an is continuing its emergence as a center of architecture and design with the YJY Maike Centre Flagship by Japanese designer Tomoko Ikegai of IKG Inc. This bookstore and commercial center has a warm, modern feel that places books and learning at the center. Wishing to evoke the feelings of a library and gallery, Ikegai marries both concepts across two levels and nearly 50,000 square feet (4,500 square meters) of space.

Adidas Vows to Make 11 Million Pairs of Shoes Using Ocean Plastic

Since 2015, Adidas has partnered with environmental conservationists Parley for the Oceans to create a line of footwear and apparel that does its part to keep our oceans clean. Made with plastic waste intercepted from the beach before it enters the water, the Adidas x Parley line has been wildly successful and is continuing to grow. With consumers clamoring for these environmentally-friendly sneakers, Adidas is prepared to ramp up production in 2019.

First and foremost, Vincent van Gogh is known for his prolific portfolio. During his short career, the Dutch artist produced over 2,000 artworks, including 900 paintings and 1,100 drawings. In addition to art, however, Van Gogh adopted another hobby during his lifetime: letter-writing. “If it’s not a letter I’m writing but a drawing I’m doing,” the artist noted in one of 651 letters addressed to his brother.

Using dinnerware as her raw material, she extracts small discs from them and strings them together like beads or inlays them among metal for earrings and rings. Hackenberg tends to focus on the decorative part of a plate or bowl, such as popular Delft patterns, which results in colorful and unassuming pieces of wearable art.
